We pride ourselves on providing the best possible riding instruction for our students. Our head instructor, Kitty Turner, has over four decades of riding and training experience. Certified by the American Riding Instructors Certification Program in both Hunter/Jumper and Eventing, she was awarded Instructor of the Year in 1987. She was able to train and coach her daughter, Jill Turner Williams, to compete at the 1993 Kentucky Three-Day Event and win the Markham Trophy -- an award to the highest-placed Young Rider.
Our barn manager and additional instructor, Jessica Long Byrd, has 16 years of riding experience under Mrs. Kitty's instruction. She has trained horses to compete at the Training Level of Eventing. Also certified by the ARICP in Eventing, she has been teaching lessons for 12 years and continues to train and compete her own and clients' horses.
Our farm is very closely-knit. When you join South Winds Farm, you're doing more than signing up for riding lessons; you're becoming part of our farm family. We are lucky to have such great people riding and boarding their horses here. If you're looking for more than just a place for horseback riding, this is the place to be.
The goal of South Winds Farm is more than just teaching our students how to ride and care for a horse. We hope to instill strong character traits and positive attitudes in all of our students. Proper riding technique is important to us, but building up our students and preparing them for the challenges of life are even more important endeavors. Horses just happen to be the tools we use.
If you have questions about the opportunities available to you in our programs, feel free to send us a message! We will get back to you as soon as possible.
